Services - ASP Antivirus

[edit] ASP Antivirus

We offer two e-mail antivirus scanning solutions for your gateway/server: Antivirus ASP (explained on this page) and Antivirus running on ClarkConnect (no extra fees!). The Antivirus ASP service protects against the dangers of virus infected e-mail. By scanning e-mail and comparing them against thousands of known virus and spam patterns, our Antivirus ASP protection stops unwanted e-mail from ever reaching your mail server.

[edit] Benefits

Linux server appliances based on Point Clark Networks software (including ClarkConnect) are deployed on tens of thousands of systems. This gives us significant purchasing power when it comes to delivering a third-party ASP service. We have partnered with Sophos PLC to provide first class antivirus protection for mail servers. The benefits of the ASP model include:

  • Lower cost due to our ability to purchase licenses in quantity
  • Monthly billing... cancel anytime
  • No additional software installation required
  • No additional system load on the server/gateway
  • Dedicated systems engineers monitoring performance and virus pattern updates
  • Mail/MX backup service

[edit] Requirements

  • SMTP mail server module must be installed on your system

[edit] Activation

  • Login to your account
  • Click on Systems in the top navigation bar
  • Select the target system from the list of active systems in your account
  • Click on ASP Antivirus in the menu

[edit] Configuration

You will see a configuration screen similar to the screenshot below. The domain list displays all domains configured in your account. Select a domain and the number of unique mailboxes on your system; click on the add button. Ensure that the antivirus checkbox is active.

[edit] Status Reports

ou will find two reports in the Antivirus ASP. If your mail server is offline, mail will start to queue on one or more of our mail scanning servers. You will see the number of queued messages in the Queued Mail report. In addition, an hourly log shows details of scanned mail for your configured domains

[edit] Configuration - Outgoing E-mail (Optional)

With the ASP Antivirus enabled, you can also scan your outgoing mail. You must configure your mail server to redirect outgoing mail to our redundant mail scanning engines. This can be accomplished by adding antivirus.pointclark.com to the Relay Host settings on your mail server.

Note: antivirus.pointclark.com is a cluster of 3 (or more) mail servers.
