What's New

The 4.1 release is an important step in implementing our 4.x roadmap.  We expect 2007 to be the best year yet for ClarkConnect!  Along with the features listed in the above table, two other packages are also available for beta testing:

DansGuardian 2.9.x

The latest version of the DansGuardian content filter is still in beta, but it includes two very important features: deep URL analysis and antivirus scanning.  Deep URL analysis not only analyzes the web page requested, but also analyzes the URLs/links.  For example, searching for "asian ladies" images on a search engine looks like this.

The beta version of DansGuardian can be installed alongside the stable version, however, only one version can be running.  The beta version can be configured in the web-based administration tool and installed with the following command: apt-get update; apt-get install cc-dansguardian-av

OpenVPN 2.1

The Managed VPN solution in ClarkConnect goes a long way in simplifying LAN-to-LAN VPNs.  However, IPSec has some significant limitations:

  • Configuring desktop-to-server connections is expensive and complex
  • The IPsec protocol is not at all firewall or NAT friendly
  • Routing extra networks through the VPN is tedious

OpenVPN does not suffer from these limitations and will become an important VPN solution in future ClarkConnect releases.  The OpenVPN software (still in beta) can only be configured from the command line at this stage.  You can install with software with the following command: apt-get update; apt-get install openvpn
